Safe design process for steel components with shear connectors

Design software StudCalc Pro

For decades, KÖCO shear connectors have been used to anchor steel components in solid construction. They transfer forces and torques in any direction from the steel part into the concrete. The positive connection of the shear connector secures the transmission also in the tension zone of the concrete. Very fast welding of the shear connector with the proven KÖCO stud welding systems is an important factor for safety and efficiency of the connection.

Steel components with welded-on KÖCO shear connectors are subject to building regulations in terms of manufacture and assembly in European Technical Assessments (ETA-03/0039 for structural steel and for stainless steel). The basis for this is European Assessment Document 330084-00-0601 "Steel plate with cast-in anchors".

The design is carried out in accordance with CEN / TS 1992-4: 2009 "Design of fastenings for use in concrete". For dimensioning we offer the program "StudCalc Pro"; it designs steel components with welded-on KÖCO shear connectors according to the current standards.

With the update to version 3.2.2 StudCalc Pro does not only offer the verification of steel components with welded-on KÖCO headed studs according to the current rules, but also the possibility to verify fasteners with KÖCO headed studs for fatigue, e.g. crane runways.

In EAD 330084-00-0601 (European Assessment Document "Steel plate with cast-in anchors"), the basic document for ETA-03/0039 (European Technical Assessment), the fatigue design is not regulated for formal, non-technical reasons. According to ETA-03/0039, which was valid until June 2018 (European Technical Approval), KÖCO shear connectors were also allowed to transfer fatigue-relevant loads.

We therefore offer users the possibility to carry out a state-of-the-art fatigue check for KÖCO shear connectors welded to anchor plates based on the values valid until 2018 from ETA-03/0039 dated 04 June 2013.

The following features make working with StudCalc Pro easy:

  • Full graphic surface with indication of the shear connectors, the steel component, the surrounding concrete and the impact
  • Free rotation of the installation situation around all axes
  • Design according to dimensional or characteristic loads
  • Any load combinations are possible
  • If required, partial safety factors can be freely selected
  • Immediate calculation of the utilization of steel and concrete in relation to the different types of failure
  • Additional reinforcement in tension and / or transverse tension can be taken into account
  • Shear connectors selectable in mild steel or stainless steel
  • For anchor groups, the center distances in the x and y directions may be different
  • Design of the anchor plate thickness; It can be chosen a rigid or an elastic anchor plate
  • Numerous connection profiles in all common dimensions for the introduction of force into the plate selectable
  • Result output summarized or extended selectable
  • A material list supplements the result output
  • When the computer is connected to the Internet, an automatic check for updates takes place at the start of the program
  • NEW: The new "Multi-measurement" function allows you to select different shear connectors. These can then also be displayed in the calculation report.
  • NEW: Display of anchor plate bending stresses and concrete compressive stresses in the design report
  • NEW: Fundamental renewal of the load interaction for additional reinforcement
  • NEW: Digital signatures in the StudCalcPro file and in the design report are possible
  • NEW: In addition to printing and exporting the design report as an XPS file, it is now also possible to export it as a PDF file

Detailed information on the verification procedure can be found in the program StudCalc Pro 3.2.2.
